Parent Child Talk Study

Are you the parent or guardian of a 3-4 year old child?

Researchers at the University of Birmingham need your help to explore parent-child talk in different settings!

Overview

Study Duration

Each video call will last approximately 1 hour, with regular comfort breaks.

💰

Payment

As a thank you for your participation, we will provide every family with a £20 voucher upon completion of all three video calls.

👪

Age

We're looking for children aged between 3 and 4.5 years old (36-54 months).

💻

Conducted via Zoom

To ensure safety, and adhere to social distancing, sessions will be conducted using the video call platform Zoom.

What will we be doing?

Sessions 1, 2 and 3:

In each of the three sessions, you and your child will be asked to:

📖 Read together (5 minutes)
🖍️ Draw together (5 minutes)
🍎 Snack together (5 minutes)

Your child will then take part in a few brief (very fun) activities.

🗓️ These calls will take place over a six-week period, so please keep that in mind when booking your first session.

What will we need?

For parents:

💻 Access to a laptop, computer or tablet for the duration of the call
🌐 A stable Wi-Fi or mobile data connection

For children:

📝 Pencil and paper
🥪 A tasty snack

Why should we do this?

  • We hope that by studying many parents and their children, we can gain a greater understanding of the special nature of parent and child conversations.
  • You will receive a small 'thank you' gift for your time with us (£20 voucher upon completion of all three video calls).
